Inaugural Show

March 1 2022

We are excited to present Booting Up.

Those living with chronic illness and disability have been used as a blunt instrument for arguments on either side of the political spectrum; while goals for a "new normal" have continued to focus on able-bodies. Booting Up considers how these conversations construct and are contextualized within disabled identities, manifested in digital space.

Image Description:

This piece is entitled perplex. It is a layered collage of textured white watercolor paper, forming an image looking up in the internal courtyard of a building complex. The collage is in a ring shape, with a hole in the middle, where the sky would be in an actual courtyard. The paper is layered to create depth and shadows, to give a 3D effect, and help the viewer feel as though they are in the space. Some of the pieces of paper in the collage have been scrunched to create a rough texture, evoking rough concrete. Other pieces have been folded to create window frames that stick up from the collage or stairs that cross the central void. You walk through a door, Expecting compression, Instead you are released Into a vast space The wind swirls down Across your neck Taking your hair with it, You have entered a void. But the void is more a space Than the confined rooms inside buildings, Curious that they call it a void. There are layers and layers and layers Of stairs You long to be up lo
